Kate Picknett has a wealth of business experience having establishing a successful career in the Sales & Marketing Department of Procter & Gamble, a multinational corporation, where she identified new markets and product lines and tracked their performance. The analytical skills learnt here have been applied in all her later roles, enabling her to clearly identify opportunities and deliver them in a timely fashion.

After a move to Cornwall for a life-style change she then spent 5 years working in local government identifying and delivering regeneration projects and developing an understanding of the needs of deprived communities, particularly in rural areas. This developed her communication and marketing skills as this role took her from small farming communities to large health trusts. This established her belief that if empowered individuals and communities can hugely improve their lifestyles and future achievements however, they often need some creative inspiration to raise their aspirations.

A further 5 years working for a local bakery company managing a field based sales team improved her organisational and project management skills and developed her knowledge of the business sectors within the South West. It also added costing and financial skills to her portfolio as she learnt to analyse balance sheets and P&L accounts.

These organisational and financial skills have been applied in a voluntary basis in other areas as Kate is Chairman of the committee that runs the local pre-school. This has involves managing a team of four staff, balancing the budget, ensuring all practices and policies are up to OFSTED standard and finding ways to communicate with parents. She has also been an integral part of the organising team for the Mousehole Sea, Salts & Sail Festival being responsible for the organisation and logistics of this 3 day festival including marketing, health & safety and working with Sally to deliver activities for the children.
